Visible Mending: Japanese Sashiko
In this workshop, we will step into the rich and layered world of sashiko and boro, two Japanese textile traditions rooted in repair, resourcefulness, and a deep respect for cloth. Far more than a stitching technique, sashiko carries a quiet philosophy. Mending is an act of care, and garments shaped by repair tell the story of a life well lived.
Together, we will explore the history and spirit of these traditions, learn what distinguishes sashiko from boro, and practice a selection of foundational stitching patterns. Along the way, we will look at how these techniques can be applied to everyday garments, with a particular focus on workwear and well worn pieces.
