DID YOU KNOW?
Who owns the Sheldon Store?
The Rupert Village Trust (RVT), a non-profit corporation, whose mission is historic preservation and community development, owns the Sheldon Store.
How much does it cost to operate the Sheldon Store?
Your generous donations help to pay the $60 per day it costs to own the store. This includes taxes, insurance, and utilities.
What is the goal of the Rupert Village Trust?
Our ultimate goal is to have a working cafe on the main floor and a community center upstairs.
Who will run the restaurant?
The RVT will lease space to an independent café operator. This arrangement is called Community Supported Enterprise and has proven successful in other small rural towns in Vermont, thanks to the support from the Preservation Trust of Vermont.
Who will come to the restaurant?
This is a long answer. EVERYBODY. RVT will help support the café in many ways, as the café supports the entire community.
What will happen to Coffee Hour?
We will continue to offer gatherings and events at the Sheldon Store, and with a café on the main floor we can include coffee service and food prepared by the café operator.
Can we use the upstairs for events?
It does not meet codes for safety or accessibility. Our planned addition will accommodate these features so that we can hold community events in the upstairs space.
Does the Rupert Village Trust own the Town Green?
No. Although we are delighted to offer events that make use of the Town Green, the Rupert Village Trust is independent from the Town Green Project. The Town Green is owned and maintained by the Town of Rupert.
Do my taxes support the Sheldon Store Project?
No. Rupert Village Trust is an independent non-profit organization and is not part of the Rupert town government. All donations are optional.
